MARINA OF CAPO D'ANZIO

The Marina di Capo d’Anzio is located a few kilometers from Rome and is a strategic starting point to reach the Pontine islands, just over an hour away by hydrofoil. The port of Anzio, one of the main fishing centers of the Tyrrhenian coast, is located in the city center, dotted with excellent cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy fresh fish among memorable seascapes.

The fame of Anzio, rich in history and millenary tradition, dates back to the times of the ancient Romans: the town is in fact home to the most beloved shores of the emperors Augustus and Tiberius. Nero was also born here and he built not only villas, palaces and temples full of extraordinary ornaments, but also the first port area. In the eighteenth century, thanks to Pope Innocent XII, the port of Anzio takes its current connotation and Anzio begins a period of prosperity, becoming a modern city and an important seaside resort, a favorite summer destination for families of the Roman aristocracy.

The remains of the Neronian port are still visible along the coast, Anzio later became famous for the landing of Allied soldiers during the Second World War. The Marina of Capo d’Anzio is also home to an important sailing centre, hosting important sailing clubs which organise courses and regattas, and an important shipbuilding site for the maintenance and garaging of pleasure and fishing boats.
